Organize Files with Folders

PaperLink lets you create folders to group related documents. Folders support nesting up to 10 levels deep and can be shared as a single link - useful for data rooms, client deliverables, and project documentation.

Create a Folder

  1. Open Shared Documents in the sidebar.
  2. Click New Folder.
  3. In the Create New Folder dialog, type a folder name (up to 100 characters, no / or \ characters).
  4. Click Create Folder.

The folder appears in your document list. Click it to open and add files inside.

To create a subfolder, open an existing folder first, then click New Folder. The new folder is created inside the current one.

Move Files into a Folder

  1. Open the file page or right-click the file in the document list.
  2. Select Move to... from the menu.
  3. In the Move Document dialog, choose the target folder.
  4. Click Move.

Files can be moved between folders at any time. Moving a file to the root level removes it from any folder.

Rename a Folder

  1. Right-click the folder (or open its context menu).
  2. Select Rename.
  3. Type the new name and press Enter.

The folder slug updates automatically to match the new name.

Share an Entire Folder

  1. Open the folder you want to share.
  2. Click Create Link at the bottom of the page.
  3. Configure access controls - password, email verification, agreement gate, download permissions, expiration date.
  4. Click Create Link.
  5. Copy the generated URL and share it.

Viewers who open the link see all files and subfolders in a browser-based viewer with breadcrumb navigation. Each file opens in the document viewer without leaving the folder interface.

Folder sharing links support the same access controls as file links: password protection, email verification, agreement gates, download control, and link expiration.

Archive or Delete a Folder

  1. Right-click the folder (or open its context menu).
  2. Select Archive to soft-delete.

Archiving a folder hides it from the active view but preserves all files and analytics data. You can restore an archived folder by selecting Restore from its context menu, or permanently remove it by selecting Delete permanently.

Folder Limits

  • Nesting depth: up to 10 levels
  • Name length: 1-100 characters
  • Path length: up to 500 characters (combined path of all parent folders)
  • Forbidden characters in name: / and \
